The Closing the Bones Ceremony is a living folk tradition of holistic care found in many cultures across the world. In Mexico it is commonly known as Cerrar la Cadera or Cerrada, meaning Closing the Hips or simply Closing. In Slavic traditions, related practices such as Otulanie or Pelenanie refer to Swaddling or Wrapping — gestures of containment, warmth, and care.
A Closing supports the integration of lived experience while honoring the growth and transformation that emerged through it. Traditionally offered to women after giving birth, this ceremony can be received at any meaningful threshold in life regardless of gender, age and religion. It is a ritual of conscious completion — a way to acknowledge what has been experienced, honor the ending of a chapter, and gently open toward what comes next. It offers realignment when moving through significant life transitions such as professional or identity shifts, relocation, illness and recovery, separation, grief, menopause, etc.
Through physical, emotional, and symbolic support, the ceremony guides you through a personal process that can help you feel more grounded, nourished, and connected to yourself. It offers space for experiences to settle within the body, allowing renewed vitality and clarity to emerge.

“When I opened the door for Pauline, I immediately felt that my gift had arrived. I had just moved my life to a new place and was looking for a way to bring my time abroad, with all its experiences, to a meaningful close.
The ceremony began with deliciously smelling cacao and its warmth spread through me from within. I especially loved creating the herb mandala. By smelling the different scents and letting the herbs slide through my hands, I brought my personal story into a sensual experience and creative expression. This process brought surprising clarity to my thoughts. Pauline listened carefully and supported the process with a grounded presence which made me feel truly seen and heard.
The herbs were later placed into a bath in which I immersed myself, cleansing my body and releasing old stories and supporting me further in moving from uncertainty to faith. Afterwards, wrapped in rebozo scarves and gently witnessed as I shed tears, I felt deeply held and safe.
